[00:00:16] All right, guys, how you doing? Welcome to life. Walk with Christ. God. We're gonna get right into it, because I missed yesterday. I was trying not to, but we had some audio and video problems. So we're going to get into it. And if you remember, today, I'm going back just a little bit, because we could see here with Isaac and Rebecca what is going on. And from the very beginning, when she had these two children, when she had the twins, Jacob was hanging on to the bottom of Esau's heel, okay? They were wrestling around and tumbling around. And then she found out, oh, what is wrong with me? And lo and behold, you have twins of two nations in you. Two. Two great nations in you. And the younger will, sir, will be served by the older. So she knows this. So this was told to her.
[00:01:17] So we get on down to it. And of course, back in those days, in the traditions. And like I said, the Bible is filled with conflict and then reconciliation all the way through. And back in those days, a lot of women, if they were barren, you could divorce them and move on.
[00:01:36] And a lot of times they would say, take my handmaid and be with her. Have a child with her so that you can carry on your. Your. Your lineage. And this happened just before that. We knew that with Hagar and with Ishmael. And, of course, it created a problem, if you remember. And Sarah. Sarah sent them out, and God said, do not be upset. I will. I will make a nation out of him so we could see how it's coming together. Now we're getting into.
[00:02:17] All right, what happened exactly with Esau and with Jacob? Well, it was real simple.
[00:02:26] Isaac was. Was old. It didn't have good vision. And he had said to Esau, listen, the venison, you. You go out and hunt for me. Take your bow and go on out and hunt for me and bring me back to venison, which I like, which. Which you make. And of course, Rebecca, being around, is going to know exactly how he makes it. So she tells Jacob, here's what I want you to do. Go find me the two best. Best goats that we have so that I may prepare them for your father, for the. The tastiness that he likes. And I want you to.
[00:03:04] You know him to bless you. And she said, I will take responsibility for it. And he goes, he's gonna know it's not me. But we already know Jacob is kind of a deceiver here. He. He already tricked Esau out of his birthright. So you could see how this is kind of unfolding and he says, there's no way I can pull this off. And she said, no. And she puts him on with his clothes and puts fur around his neck and on his arms and everything like that. So he's gonna smell like Esau, he's going to feel like Esau. And Isaac doesn't have the best vision. And here he comes bringing in the food that Rebecca has made. And she said, if there's something, I will take the responsibility for this.
[00:03:52] So Isaac eats it and it's wonderful. And he blesses Jacob.
[00:03:58] And lo and behold, as soon as Jacob comes out of there and everything, he goes in there, you know, prepares his venison and everything for his father. And his father is already questioning. He already knows there's something up here because he's. He's like you. You, you. You smell like Esau. You feel like Esau, but you have Jacob's voice.
[00:04:23] And he said, no, I'm. I'm Esau.
[00:04:27] So there's the deception there again. And now that Esau's gone on there, he's livid. He has turned and he has said, first he has taken my birthright, now he has taken my blessing. Do you not have a blessing for me? You have not anything for me left. Okay, well, we saw this, this deception, this, you know, the conflict and the reconciliation. I mean, all the way from Cain and Abel, we saw this going through. From, you know, all the way parts through Noah and. And I'm going to tell you and the predictions and everything that were going to happen, the prophets and everything, so many things going on in the background. So we're going to get to Jacob's dream now because Rebecca said, listen, I heard your brother say in his vengeance that he is going. He's gonna kill you. So I want you to go to Pandoram and I want you to go ahead and take a wife there, stay within our family, within the lineage for my brother. Okay, Laban. So of course he does exactly that because he wants to get away. He's afraid of Esau and the revenge he's going to take. And she said, when his fury has subsided, he's calmed down. I will call for you and then you can come back.
[00:05:51] So let's get to this.
[00:05:53] And we're gonna. We're gonna start here. Let's get to this, this dream that Jacob is having. And let's immerse ourselves and think about every single thing that is going on. And we'll walk through because you can almost see all these. These metaphorical things that jump to the New Testament and jump back and like we said, there's over 60, 000 different cross references back and forth. But put yourself there and, and let's take a look at it together. And it's. The wonderful thing about it is the Bible is open to so many different interpretations. So let's take a look at it.
[00:06:36] And here we are. And we're on verse 10. We're on page 40, Genesis 29. Okay. Actually Genesis 28, verse 10, getting to chapter 29, but we're on page 40. Okay, King James Bible, guys.
[00:06:52] And Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran, and he lighted upon us and he lighted upon a certain place and tarried there all night because the sun was set. And he took of the stones of that place and put them for his pillows and laid down in that place to fall asleep. And I want you to remember the stones here, okay? The stone that he's using for his pillow and everything.
[00:07:21] And he dreamed. And behold a ladder set up on the earth. And the top of it reached to the heaven and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
[00:07:33] Now I want you to picture this stone now and the importance of it, okay? And we're going to come to it in just a second when Christ says that, you know, and we already know he is the cornerstone of, of all. Okay? He is the Lamb, he's the cornerstone. It, it is all on him because of what he has done for us. So understand, going up, coming through heaven and everything. Narrow is the gate, the road is narrow. And wide is the gate to destruction and, and wide, you know, is the road. So you could kind of metaphorically see, you see these on, on a ladder. A ladder is narrow. Here, here's the stone. The cornerstone is the bottom. The only way to get into heaven and, and get up towards God is because we have that, that, that belief that we know that Christ died for our sins. So you could kind of metaphorically see this in the future playing out now in early Genesis.
[00:08:37] So let's look and, and behold the Lord stood above it and said, I am the Lord, God of Abraham, thy Father and God of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee I will give, I will give it and to thy seed.
[00:08:56] So he's already been blessed, right? Isaac has already blessed him and God has now fulfilled and fulfilling every single covenant that he made to Abraham. I mean, think of all the different things and, and having conversations with God, whether in these dreams or right then and there.
[00:09:17] I mean, it's incredible because he he's promised him before listening, Sarah is going to have a child. And of course she mocks him, right? And he says, you know, why, basically, why are you mocking me? You don't think that I have the power, that I can do these things? And of course she's like, well, I didn't laugh. And Abraham said, well, yes she did, you know, and lo and behold, towards the end, after the child, after Isaac was born, then she says, now the whole world can laugh with me because of the child. So you, you saw the conflict. Now you see the, the reconciliation there and how everything has played out. So let's go out in here to Jacob's dream.
[00:10:05] And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth. And thou shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in the land in thy seed shall all families of the earth be blessed. Well, we already were told, just before Abraham was that Isaac, it's all going to start again anew with, with him. Really, if you, if you go backwards, everyone's like, well, you know, Christ is a descendant of, of David. And you know, that's that. No, because really, if you go all the way back, everybody is the descendant of Abraham and Isaac. And they will be as numerous as the stars and as the sand on the seashore. And we've, we were already told this.
[00:10:54] So and Abraham was sent all kinds of wonderful things. He was made promises and covenants with God.
[00:11:03] God told him this before he was going to sacrifice Isaac. And of course know he said, don't touch the lad, don't, don't, don't hurt the boy at all.
[00:11:13] And Isaac knew that God will come, you know, through. And somehow or another or Abraham knew that, you know, God had come through and provide a sacrifice rather than his son. He had that belief he had that he was God fearing, he wasn't going to disobey. And lo and behold, the rams stuck in the, in the bushes with his horns. And there you go, there was the sacrifice. And then all of a sudden Melchizedek shows up.
[00:11:46] High priest, High priest in the order of Melchizedek. All, all of them, all the way through the Bible, a whole bunch of ones that God has called King of Salem. Where, where's the genealogy? Where's anything. No sent from God, okay, To the fact, to the point, to where Abraham gave him a tenth of everything, which is very interesting. So here we go. And now Isaac giving the blessings and everything that he did to Jacob, thinking it was Esau, but it went to Jacob, and you saw the deception there.
[00:12:21] So here we go. Now we're going to get into some good stuff.
[00:12:26] And behold, I am with thee and will keep thee in all the places where thou goest and will not leave thee until I have done that which I have spoken thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep and said, surely the Lord is in this place.
[00:12:44] And I knew it not. And he was afraid and said, how dreadful is this place. This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. So he's reaffirming that ladder. He's reaffirming that cornerstone to where we can see now, you know, exactly.
[00:13:06] Almost the future right there.
[00:13:10] And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had put for his pillows and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.
[00:13:19] Very interesting, because in the New Testament, if you remember, the oil was poured on Jesus and Judas was upset. He's like, why wasn't this used for the poor? Which we all knew that he had no inclination whatsoever to do anything for the poor. He was greedy, okay? He was flawed.
[00:13:40] Well, what did you find out here? Jacob's flawed. What do we find out about Adam? Adam's flawed. What did we find out about Cain? Cain is flawed. What do we find out about every existence on the world? So God destroyed it. Flawed. That's what people are. And God knew all the way back in early, early Genesis, he said, you know, repent for making mankind. They're inherently evil. So let's move up.
[00:14:10] And he called the name of that place Bethel. But the name of the city was Luz at first. And Jacob vowed a vow saying, and listen to the words carefully here, if God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on so that I can come again to my Father's house in peace. Then shall the Lord be my God. It kind of sounds like a little bit of, well, if you do this, then I'll believe you are God.
[00:14:47] If. He's kind of testing, isn't he? And we can see that it's not the first time that we're going to see this in the Bible. Okay. But to me, it's kind of a testing. And is that not going to be addressed later on down the line in Exodus? Well, yeah.
[00:15:10] Do not tempt the Lord thy God. Oh, where have we heard that before? Well, let's see. Mark, Matthew, Luke, John. I mean, you could see how this is all playing out into the New Testament, but also into the Old Testament because you're going to look at the, the Ten Commandments here and how everything is. And God does not like to be tested. Who are we to give counsel to God? Who are we to sit here and question him? His thinking is not our thinking. It's above our thinking. And we make this mistake. So, okay, on we go again. But I wanted to point that out to you because I. I thought it was kind of. Of arrogant of Jacob. But we have to understand, Jacob really is kind of a word of deception. So let's move on.
[00:16:07] And.
[00:16:08] And I really liked it again.
[00:16:11] And this stone which I have set for a pillar shall be God's house. And all of that that thou shall give me, I will surely give a tenth unto thee. Well, why a tenth? Well, Abraham gave a tenth till Melchizedek.
[00:16:29] So here is now Jacob. We're seeing it again. It's. It's repeating in the pattern and we're seeing it again.
[00:16:38] So now we're going to get to Jacob's labors and boy, is this one really going to shake your feet. Because you're going to see Jacob is going to fall into a deceptional trap, kind of exactly what he's done to his brother Esau in a lot of ways. So let's, let's get on. Let's take a look at it. And if you remember, I'm gonna go back when he goes to Nour and, and to know, to the family, Noor's family, he has two daughters there. And of course he loves the younger daughter, Rachel, but there's Leah and wait, these two are in conflict.
[00:17:27] So, you know, he says, okay, listen, I'll work for you for seven years for Rachel.
[00:17:37] And he gets into this and he does the work because to him it seemed like nothing.
[00:17:44] And Laban gave unto his daughter first. Laban tricks him, right? He sends in Leah.
[00:17:55] And Jacob favored Rachel, and we know that.
[00:18:00] And Laban said, it is better that I give you her to thee, then I should give you her to another man. Abide with me.
[00:18:10] And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed unto him but a few days for the love he had for. So he's really smitten with her. He's in love with her. She's beautiful. And he's.
[00:18:24] That's just how he is. He is.
[00:18:28] That's who I love. That's who I want to be with. And again, Laban is, is the father here. So it came to pass.
[00:18:38] Laban, it came to pass in the evening that he took.
[00:18:43] He took Leah, his daughter, and brought her unto him. And he went in unto her. And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah, his maid, for a. For a handmaid. And it came to pass in the morning. Behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, what is this thou has done unto me? Did I not serve with thee for Rachel? Wherefore has thou beguiled me? Hey, why have you decepted me? But wait a minute here. Isn't that kind of the pot calling the kettle black? You know, I mean, you tricked your father. Your mother helped you trick your father. You tricked your brother for. For soup. For lentil soup. Out of his birthright. Okay? And now you're mad at Laban for sending Leah in.
[00:19:34] And of course, he's not very happy about this, so.
[00:19:42] And Laban said, it must not be done in our country to give the younger before the firstborn. So you can see how important the firstborn is. Esau was the firstborn, but Jacob. And they wrestled inside the womb, if you remember, of Rebecca. So Esau is when. When Esau is born and he's coming out. Here's Jacob grabbing onto his heel. And ever since then, you know, because he was famished and everything else, he says, give me your birthright trickery instead of helping his brother. But we're going to see how God works here. This is the wonderful thing that we'll never be able to understand in our minds God's thinking. But if you're paying attention to it and we're looking at all the different things going on in the background, you get a better perspective of. You can almost see exactly how it all ties in and how the Bible is proving itself over and over and over again all the way through. So here's the enjoyable part now.
[00:20:52] And we're going to see Jacob go back to his old trickery ways after this. So here we go.
[00:21:00] And Laban said, it must be not done. So, okay? And we know why. Because the firstborn fulfill her week. And we will give thee this also for the service which thou shall serve with me yet. Seven other years. So now he wants. You want Rachel. Fine. Serve another seven years. So here we go.
[00:21:23] And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week and gave. And gave him Rachel, his daughter to wife also. So now we've got two women in the mix.
[00:21:35] Boy, where have we seen that before? Sarah Hagar. And that didn't turn out well. As a matter of fact, it became such of a menace and such of a troublesome relationship that Sarah said, send away that woman and her child. He will not be a part of the inheritance and everything of my son.
[00:22:02] And you could kind of understand why. So, and Laban gave it to Rachel, his daughter, and Billa, his handmaid, to mate her and Rachel, and went in unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah. There's the conflict now. You got the conflict there. So.
[00:22:26] And. And he served with him yet seven other years. And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
[00:22:38] So Jacob, being a little deceptive, maybe, maybe being humbled, could it go back to possibly what he said? Hey, listen, you know, if I. If you do all this stuff for me, I believe I, you, you will be my God.
[00:22:56] We can't understand God's thinking, but if it were human beings, we'd be a little upset, maybe a little ticked off to be, you know, and said, okay, well, I got news for you, you know, so.
[00:23:14] And Leah conceived and Boris son, and she called his name Reuben. For she said, surely the Lord had looked upon my affliction.
[00:23:23] And there's that word, affliction. That's that. That conflict. And. And we're going to see this.
[00:23:30] And now before my husband will love me. So now she thinks because she's had Reuben, that Jacob will somehow his love for Rachel will fade more towards her.
[00:23:46] And you can understand younger sister, older sister, if you have family members, you could kind of understand the conflict there.
[00:24:00] I have brothers. I'm. I'm blessed.
[00:24:03] Was there conflict Sometimes, absolutely. But not a doubt in my mind. We didn't love each other. We always have.
[00:24:12] It has nothing to do with that in some respects. But back then, you could kind of see this was. This was pretty much a rivalry and could get down to the point of life or death. We saw that with Esau and Jacob, how I'm going to take his life. So Rebecca said, get out of here. Go. And.
[00:24:37] And she conceived again and bore a son and said, because the Lord hath heard me, that I was hated. He had therefore given me this son also. And she called his name Simeon. Well, she thinks that Jacob hates her.
[00:24:56] I don't think that it is a hate. I think that Jacob, being a deceiver, was deceived in his mind. And because of that, he really does have this deep love for Rachel. There's no question. And Leah is second best in his mind.
[00:25:17] Okay.
[00:25:19] And she is having these children, and she thinks this is the second time that she's like, okay, because I was Hated. This is. This is why I'm having these children.
[00:25:34] And here we go. And again. She conceived again and bore a son and said, now I will praise the Lord. Therefore, she called his name Judah. And I want you to think about the names here, because this. This also points again to the future. Judah, Israel.
[00:25:54] Okay?
[00:25:55] You know, we've. If you go back, Reuben, all the names here, tribes or. Or the cities or the places, all of it. Look at the entire background and how wonderful it is.
[00:26:12] So now we are. Chapter 30, page 41, Genesis. And when Rachel saw that she bear Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister and said unto Jacob, give me children or else I die.
[00:26:27] So she is.
[00:26:30] There's a joke that I heard one of my friends say that you can. You can stick two beautiful women on a park bench, and one of them is going to turn green with envy. Well, you have that here. That's exactly what's going on here. Okay? Leah is beautiful in her way. Rachel is beautiful in her way. And you pretty much. It's descriptive in here, too, as to why. Okay. One with the eyes and the other with the body and everything like that. Both of them fair. I. I mean, and Jacob Sander. Anger was kindled again. Rachel against Rachel. And he said, am I in God's stead who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?
[00:27:23] Notice now that Jacob is. We went from, well, if you do this for me, I will believe in you to where it is. Hey, whoa, wait a minute here. I am the one, not the one telling God what to do. I'm not keeping you from children here. Okay? Don't be mad at me.
[00:27:44] Understand something. It's not me, okay?
[00:27:50] So you can understand. And he's not going to be driven into this. This wedge that. That has happened right there. And really, who caused all this? Well, let's go back. Not only did he cause it in Genesis 28 and 29 with his brother, but now Laban has caused it because Laban kind of.
[00:28:13] Well, he threw Leah at him and said, no, no, no, no, no. In our way, we have to do the firstborn. And she said, behold my maid Billa, go into her, and she shall bear upon my. And she shall bear upon my knees that I may also have children of her.
[00:28:34] Who did that before? Sarah. Sarah With. With Hagar.
[00:28:42] That's going to be an issue, and we're seeing it there. This is going to cause conflict. We know this. There's already conflict with the sisters now, okay? Because I can't have that. I. You Go with my.
[00:28:57] I'm going to tell you. And it wasn't uncommon to have numerous wives back then. Okay. Today it's a. And God forgive me, it's a bottle of aspirin. Okay. It's just. Why would you even step into that trap? So here we go.
[00:29:15] Oh, and Rachel and, And of course, Billa conceived and bear Jacob a son. And Rachel said, God hath judged me and hath also heard my voice and hath given me a son, therefore called she his name, Dan.
[00:29:32] Tribe of Dan. Here we are. Pay attention to everything that's going on. Okay? Of the 12 tribes, we, I, I mean, if you, if you listen and you pay attention to everything, we're going into the future and we're coming back here. And here's where it's all starting. We've got Judah, we've got Simeon, we've got Dan, we've got. All this is coming together.
[00:29:58] And Rachel said, with great wrestlings, I have wrestled with my sister and I have prevailed. And she called his name Naftali.
[00:30:07] Oh, there you go. There's another one. Okay.
[00:30:11] It's unbelievable.
[00:30:13] And it's just.
[00:30:20] Here's Bella that has conceived two sons. And now we are seeing. Wow. Is this really the 12 different tribes that are being formed? We're also seeing the future Judah part of Israel. I mean, the stone with the ladder and everything else. And you know, for really strict of eye and paying attention here, it's amazing everything that's going on.
[00:30:47] When Leah saw that she, she had left bearing, she took Zilla, her maid, and gave her to Jacob to wife. Now she's doing the same thing. Wait, I'm not done here. They're one upping each other all the way around, okay? And Jacob was caught in the middle of this, but Jacob has kind of made his own bed, so to speak.
[00:31:14] And Zilla's, Leah's maid, bore Jacob a son. And Leah said, a troop cometh, and she called his name Gad.
[00:31:23] Wow.
[00:31:26] And Zilla, Leah's maid, bear Jacob a second son. And Leah said, happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed. And she called his name Asher.
[00:31:38] Starting to put it together here. Are you starting to see how this is going into the future?
[00:31:45] It's, it's amazing. And especially if you've, if you've already read the Bible before, you're really going to pay attention to this and you're really going to love it because as soon as we start to hit Exodus and the, the future chapters, you're going to be like, oh, wow, check this out. This is why I said the Bible is the greatest poetic love story that was ever written. And think about it. It is number one on the best sellers list and has been. It is the most selling book and everything. But it's always been there. So it's been number one from the time it was canonized. And the scripts and the scrolls and everything has always been number one because everyone followed it from what was written from Moses to everything.
[00:32:38] So it's always been number one. Think about that. That's how precious of a gift that it is to be able to read it.
[00:32:48] And Reuben went into the days of wheat harvest and four and found four mandrakes in the field and brought them unto his mother Leah. And Rachel said to Leah, give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.
[00:33:04] Why is this important? We're gonna find out. And she said unto her, is it a small matter that thou has taken my husband? And thou wouldst thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, therefore he shall lie with thee tonight, Friday son's mandrakes. There's the mandrakes. There's the bribe.
[00:33:28] Sounds kind of like the Lenal suit between Esau and. And Jacob. Right?
[00:33:36] Now Rachel and Leah are. Are in this thing doing the exact same thing in a different way.
[00:33:46] Fine. You can have the man man Drakes. But I get to lie with him tonight.
[00:33:51] You know, he's. He's going to be with me tonight.
[00:33:55] Oh.
[00:33:59] And therefore he shall lie with thee tonight for thy son's mandrakes. And Jacob came out of the field in the evening and Leah went out to meet him and said, thou must come in unto me, for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. Now think about this. That's his two wives, but he's. He's really got four because he's got Zelpa and. And you know, he. He also has.
[00:34:33] Therefore.
[00:34:35] Well, let me see. My mind does this. And I'm sorry guys.
[00:34:42] Leah's and. And also Rachel's handmaids. And he has both of them. So think about this.
[00:34:50] And Leah said, God hath given me my hire because I have given my maiden to my husband. And she called his name Ishar. And Leah convinced are conceived again and bear Jacob the sixth son.
[00:35:11] So here we are, we're on on Genesis, chapter 30, verse 20. And Leah said, God hath in endued me with a. A good dowry. Now with my husband dwell with me, because I have Borne him six sons. And she called his name Zebulun.
[00:35:35] The name. The names. Everything going on. Cities, places, names, tribes, all the different things. And God remembered Rachel. Here we are. Verse 22, page 42, chapter 30. And God remembered Rachel. And God hearkened to her and opened her womb, and she conceived and bear a son. And God said, God hath taken away my reproach. And she called his name Joseph.
[00:36:03] That is going to be amazing.
[00:36:06] And she said, the Lord shall add me another son. And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, send me away, that I may go unto my own place and in my own country. Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee, and let me go, for thou knowest my service, which I have done thee. Jacob wants him to fulfill his part of the deal, okay? He already felt wronged about it. He says, I've already served you. I've done everything. Now give me what's mine, and I will be on my way. And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I found favor in thy eyes, Terry, for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake. Well, sure he has. Jacob has taken care of everything, and of course, he's tended all the sheep and. And everything else and taken care of the place and everything else, and he's done very well, so.
[00:37:11] But here comes Jacob again, and he said unto him, thou knowest I have served thee and how thy cattle was with me.
[00:37:25] For it was little which thou had before I came, and now was increased unto a multitude. And the Lord had blessed since. Blessed thee since my coming. And now, when shall I provide for my own house also? Just tell him, listen, I've done well for you. You. You've done well.
[00:37:47] Now I want my own. I want to earn my own and. And make my own household and everything.
[00:37:54] And he said, what shall I give thee? And Jacob said, thou shalt not give me anything.
[00:38:00] If thou will do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock.
[00:38:09] Here's the gears. He's spinning his gears. Now I will pass through all thy flock today, removing from thence all the speckled and the spotted cattle and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats, and of such shall be my hire. That's what you can give me. Give me the defective ones. Now, it's very funny how this works, because if you look at.
[00:38:37] If. If you've. Preston. I said, if you've read the Bible and you look at the disciples, if you look at Jacob, if you look at Adam, if you look all the way from la, I don't care, Lamech, all the way Noah. Anyone through there? Enoch, of course, was the exception. But if you look at everybody there, is God picking the best of us?
[00:38:59] Has he chosen the absolute best of us? Abraham? Without a doubt. Okay, no questions there. I mean, but if you look at the disciples, we had a tax collector. He's a sinner. He made money. Judas was the money bag keeper. And he used to pinch out of the money bag all the time. We knew that we had a thief, we had a tax collector, we had deception all the way through. The worst people that you could choose to be disciples.
[00:39:28] And yet they started the truth, the way and everything else for us to be saved in this world.
[00:39:39] Wow.
[00:39:41] And here you're going to see part of it. Why, all the way down and all the way through the line, you. You could see this.
[00:39:52] So shall my righteousness answer for me in the time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face that everyone that is not speckled and spotted among the goats and the brown among the sheep that shall be counted stolen with me. So he's telling them, you keep all the perfect ones here, that's fine. Give me the ones that are flawed and we'll go from there. And Laban said, behold, I wouldn't might be according to thy word. And he removed that day the he goats that were ring striked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and everyone that had some white in it and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them un into the hands of his sons. And he set three days journey between himself and Jacob. And Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
[00:40:49] So he's already pushed them all out and said, go take care of what we need to take care of. I'm going to stay here and tend to the flocks and do this. And Jacob took him rods of green popular and of hazel and chestnut tree, and pilled white streaks or white streaks in them. And he made the white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had piled before the flocks in the gutters, in the water, in the troughs. And the flocks came to drink and. And they should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods and brought forth cattle ring strength and speckled and spotted. And Jacob did separate the lambs and set the faces of the flocks toward the ring Streaked and all the brown in the flock of Laban. And he put his own flocks by themselves and put them not into Laban's cattle. And it came to pass whosoever the stronger cattle did conceive that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the. In the gutters that they might conceive among the rods. So he's pulled the fast one here on Laban. Okay.
[00:42:08] But when the cattle. Cattle were feeble, he put them not in. So the feeble were Labans and the stronger. Jacobs. Here's that metaphoric thing again.
[00:42:20] Esau shall serve Jacob. The younger will be served by the older. The older shall serve the younger. Well, now he's kind of reversed this with Laban. He's. He's done this and he's it. And Jacob's deceptive.
[00:42:35] There you go. So Jacob's flight. And he heard the words of Laban's son saying, jacob hath taken away all that was our Father's, and that which was our father's hath he gotten all his glory. And Jacob beheld the counterance of Laban, and behold, it was not toward him as before. And the Lord said unto Jacob, return unto thy land of thy fathers and into the kindred, and I will be there with thee. So now when he tested God, and he said, let me. You know, I'll believe in you if you take care of me and you do all this stuff and let me come back to my father in peace. Now he's being told, go back. Here you are. Now you will go back. So Jacob really has no reason not to believe at all anyway.
[00:43:28] And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock and said unto them, I see your father's countenance and that it is toward. Not toward me as before, but the God of my father had been with me. So he's basically telling. I could see your dad's upset here. He's mad. And what is this countenance that we're talking about, this downtrodden face, this. This angriness?
[00:43:56] We've already heard that, too. Abel and Cain. And if you remember, God stepped in and said, listen, if you do right, will you not be accepted?
[00:44:06] And if you don't do right, sin, or you think wrongly, sin lieth at the door.
[00:44:16] It's going to happen to you if you. If you give into it. If. If you go ahead and. And you feed it, you will give into it. So we know this not just here, but also.
[00:44:29] Fast forward to the New Testament and Christ Shows us that. Mark, Matthew, Luke, John. We know that, and you know that with all my power I have served your father. So now he's telling both. Both his wives too. Well, the. The handmaids are wives, but they're. Leah and Rachel are number one and number two. So. And your father has deceived me and changed my wages 10 times, but God suffered him not to hurt me.
[00:45:03] So Laban has been deceptive the whole way. Jacob was deceptive the last time.
[00:45:09] If he said thus, the speckled shall be thy wages, then all the cattle beared speckled. And if he said thus, the ring strikes shall be thy higher, then bear all the cattle. Ring strikes. Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father and given them to me. And it came to pass at that time in the cattle conceived that I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream. And behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ring straight, speckled and crystal. And the angel of God spoken to me in a dream, saying, Jacob. And I said, here I am. Which we know Hebrew Hanini.
[00:45:53] Again, here I am God calling to him, Hanini.
[00:46:01] And he said, lift up now thy eyes, thy eyes and see all the rams which heap upon the kale or ring strikes, speckled and gristled. For I am the God of Bethel. Where thou annoyed us the pillar, and where thou. And. And you notice when he called that place Bethel, where he placed the rocks, the pillows, the rocks and everything there I am the God. I am God. I have been with you. And. And really it was kind of arrogant of him to challenge God to begin with.
[00:46:34] And he said, arise and get out thee from this land and return unto the land of thy kindred. And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? Are we not counted of him strangers? For he had sold us and hath quite devoured also our money. Now think about it.
[00:47:01] Jacob really loves Rachel.
[00:47:04] And of course, he's with Leah also.
[00:47:08] But now the women, and here they go. Now they're like, well, what are we worth? Was there no inheritance for us? To begin with, we're basically sold. You worked for us. That's it. And. And what are we worth?
[00:47:24] For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours and our children? Now, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do. Then Jacob rose up and set his sons and his wives upon their camels. And he carried away all his cattle and all his good which he had gotten the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Pandoram to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan. And Laban went to steer the sheep, and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's, oh, household goods, stuff like that.
[00:48:02] And Jacob stole away, stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian.
[00:48:10] And that he told him not that he fled. So he fled with all that he had, and he rose up and passed over the river and set his face toward Mount Galilee. And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled and he took his brethren with him and pursued after him seven days journey and they overtook him in the mount of Galilee. And God came into Laban the Syrian in a dream by night and said to him, take heed that thou speak not to Jacob, either good or bad. So now God has interfered here, God has made it very clear now, hey, this is not happening. And if you remember, God has come before the other ones, not only with Isaac, who lied to Abimelech about his wife, but also Abraham who didn't said, she is my sister. And God good as much came down and said, you touch her, you're a dead man.
[00:49:15] So and Abimelech told everyone this. And of course after that happened with Isaac too. He's like, Abid wants nothing to do with anything anymore. He's like, listen, you know, I don't know who filled in the wells, if you remember when we were back there, that the wells were filled in. He says, I knew nothing about it. He doesn't want anything to do with any of that because he is afraid. So Laban said to Jacob, what has thou done that thou has stolen away awares to me and carried my daughters as captives taken with sword? Wherefore did thou flee away, secretly steal away from me, and did not tell me that I might have sent thee away with mirth and with songs, with tabert and with a harp, and has not and has not suffered to me to kiss my sons and my daughters.
[00:50:18] Thou has now done foolishly in doing so.
[00:50:23] And this is the power of my hand to do to do you hurt.
[00:50:29] But the God of your father spoke unto me yesterday, saying, take thou heed and speak not to Jacob, either good or bad. And now through thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longest after thy father's health. Yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
[00:50:51] Here's the thing.
[00:50:53] Images, other gods, but not God.
[00:50:59] So now we're getting into this part.
[00:51:03] And Jacob answered and said to lame, because I was afraid, for I said pre adventure thou wouldst take by force thy daughters for me, with whomsoever thou findest thy God, thy goddess, let them not live before our brethren. Discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them. And Laban said. And Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidens tents, and he found them not. Then he went out of Leah's tent and entered into Rachel's tent. Now Rachel had taken the images and put them in the camel's furniture and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but he found them not. And he said unto and she said unto her father, let it not displease my lord, that I cannot rise up before thee, for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images. And Jacob was wroth and and chod with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, what is my trespass? What is my sin, that thou has so hotly pursued after me? Whereas thou has searched all my all my stuff. What is thou found of all my household stuff? Set it before my brethren and thy brethren, that we may judge betwixt us both.
[00:52:42] This 20 years I have been with thee. Thy eyes and thy she goes have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten, for which I was torn. Of beasts I brought not unto thee. I bear the loss of it I my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. Thus I was in the day the drought consumed me, and in the frost by night and my sleep departed from thy my eyes. Thus I have been 20 years in thy house. I served three 14 years for thy two daughters and six years for thy cattle. And thou hast changed my wages 10 times. Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the and the fear of Isaac had been with me. Surely thou had sent me away. Now empty God had seen my affliction and thy labor of thy my hands and rebuke thee yesterday. And therefore and yesterday the night before. And Laban answered and to his Jacob, these daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle. And all thou seest is mine. And what can I do this day unto these my daughters? Or unto the children which they they have borne? Now, therefore, come now, let us make a covenant. And I and thou. And let it be for a witness between me and thee. And Jacob took a stone, and he set it up for a pillar. And Jacob said Unto his brethren gather stones. And they took stones and made a heap as the. And they did eat there upon the heap. And Laban called it Jacob. Oh, boy, I'm not going to say this one. Jeg Asadu.
[00:54:41] But Jacob called it Galid. And Laban said, this heap is a witness between me and the this day. Therefore the name of it shall be called Galit and Mizp. For he said, the Lord, watch between me and thee when we are absent from one another. If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take another wives besides my daughters, no man, no man is with us. Sea God is witness between me and thee. And Laban said unto Jacob, behold, this is the heap. Behold, this is the pillar which I have cast between me and thee. This heat be witness, and this pillar be witness that I will not pass over this heat to thee, and that thou shall not pass over to this heap and to the pillar unto harm unto me for harm. And the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, for the God of their father judged between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.
[00:55:41] He promised him solemnly. And Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount and called his brethren to eat bread. And they did eat bread and tarried all night in the mount. And early in the morning, Laban rose up, kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them. And Laban departed and returned to his place.
[00:56:03] And we're going to stop there, guys, because now we're getting. And you could see exactly how Jacob played this out. It was very interesting.
[00:56:14] I loved how Laban kind of got a taste of his own medicine because Jacob did, and Jacob got a taste of his own medicine. So you could see a lot of humbling parts that are going on here and the names and everything else, how they play an important role throughout the Bible.
[00:56:35] Asher, Gad, Dan, you know, Judah, Reuben, and all these things are going to play out. It's wonderful. And when we. We come next week, we are going to be. Jacob fights with the angel.
[00:56:52] We're. We're going to see this. Because a lot of people have this misconception, and there's been a lot of misconception throughout the Bible. Oh, it was an apple that, you know, that did this, and no, it was fruit. Okay. I. I mean it. There's so much confusion in the Bible, and you really do have to pay attention to it and delve into it. Like I said, put yourself with the story and as we're reading through it, understand what the both of them are saying. And it's very hard to say some of the names and everything like that. And I'm terrible at it. It's one of my flaws. But I want to try to put you there as, as to. You're seeing everything play out and how it's playing out. And of course, the sisters having everything going on and then realizing, hey, wait a minute, where's our inheritance? And what are we? Nothing. You basically sold us for work since they're not happy now there's conflict with the father. But now all this is coming out and the father blesses them and blesses the sons.
[00:57:55] So conflict, reconciliation, and here we go. We're going to be at chapter 32, page 44, King James Bible in the book of Genesis. And I'm going to stop here at 11 4.
[00:58:15] And I'm excited to get into these, these, these.
[00:58:19] Oh, man, it's going to be awesome.
[00:58:22] We're going to get into some really heavy stuff here that is going to just. It's a great book, man. It is a great love story. But we're going to find out and you're going to see one thing that always plays out.
[00:58:37] Love beats all. And that's the cool thing about it. It just, it testifies to itself every time that no matter what, love overcomes all.
[00:58:51] And where did we see that? Well, New Testament, love thy brothers, thyself.
[00:59:00] That's.
[00:59:02] He lays it right on the line for us. Christ does. So we're going to see that here in the Old one. You're going to understand why God eventually had to send his son. It wasn't because.
[00:59:16] It was because of us, but we're going to cover that. So here we go. We're going to get into this next part next week. I want to thank you all for tuning in to life. Walk with Christ. God, I hope. Try to remember I'm not a deacon, I'm not a priest. Preacher, I'm not a priest, I'm not a rabbi. I'm not clergy. I'm nobody. I am just a simple guy that loves this book and loves to read it. And the more I read it, the more stuff I find all the way through it. And it's open to interpretation. So how you see things might not be the way I see things, but I love sharing it. So, you know, I. I can't thank you enough if, if you're new to this or you're joining it.
[01:00:01] But I love this. It has brought me a lot of peace in my life of which I've never had before.
[01:00:10] It still doesn't fix a lot of things, but it's working on it, you know, And I keep trying and trying and trying, but that's my lifelaw, so hopefully it does something for you. And that's my invitation to you. All the praise and glory goes to God, so hopefully it's doing something.
[01:00:30] Take care, guys. Bye.
